Please refer to our website to download the PC8 application form and bring two passport photos, the completed application form and any other ID documents you may hold.

The emergency passport can be issued within 72 hours once all requirements are fulfilled. Travel must be within 5 days of the issue date. This travel document will contain only 4 visa pages and the validity will be limited to a period of up to 12 months.

If travel is via or to a country other than Australia, please contact the respective embassy of that country for entry and visa requirements. The Australian Embassy cannot provide visa information.

Apostilles and authentication

Legalisation is the process where we verify the signature, seal or stamp on a document. We compare it to what we have on record.

Once we confirm the match, we attach an apostille or authentication certificate to it. Ask the receiving authority what they need.

The apostille or authentication certificate verifies the signature and/or seal on the document. You can then present it to the authority overseas who asked you for it.

Please bring your passport and original documents to the appointment.

Witnessing of Signature

Witnessing signatures
We can witness signatures on many official Australian documents, for use in Australia.

Be aware that you may not need DFAT to witness your signature. In many cases, you can find someone else locally to witness it for you. Ask the receiving authority in Australia who else can witness it for you.

Certifying photographs and copies of original documents
We can certify photographs and true copies of documents overseas.

We can't tell you if you need a photograph or true copy certified, or if DFAT must do it. Ask the receiving authority if you need it certified and who can do it for you.

In many cases, you can find a local authorised person to do it for you.

True copies of documents
We can photocopy your original document, and certify it is a true copy.

Documents must be Australian, or for use in Australia.
We apply the following certification on it: "This is a true copy of the document presented to me". This is DFAT approved wording. We won't alter it.
We don't certify or endorse the contents in your document. We only certify the copy is identical.

Photographs
We can certify that your photograph is of you.

The photograph must be for use in Australia. If it's for local use, you may need to find a local authority to certify it.

When the consular official confirms you are the person in the picture and sights your valid photo identification, they'll certify it.

We will state that the photograph is "a true likeness of [your name]". This is DFAT approved wording. We won't alter it.

Certificates of no Impediment to Marriage (CNI)

The Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage is a document stating that, provided you have told the truth at the time of the application and provided that you are not married to anyone else at the time of the marriage, then there are no laws prohibiting an Australian national marrying in the country where you are marrying.

We conduct no verifying checks in relation to issuing the certificate and this is clearly stated on the certificate.

The certificate does not state whether either applicant is single.

Please bring the application form (http://smartraveller.gov.au/services/legalising-documents/overseas.html), your and your partner's passport or ID Card and your original divorce decree/spouse's death certificate if either of you have been married before.

Mine and my mother's passport renewal appointment today went very smoothly. Yuval was extremely helpful and patient. She went out of her way to look into a question I had yesterday and made sure to explain exactly what I needed so I could come as prepared as possible. It was very appreciated!

I visited your Tel Aviv embassy with my 95 years old mother in law.
The visit and the staff were very nice and helpfull.
But we came for no actuall reason:
We filed her papers on line and were told to come and deliver the actual photo.
Apparently the on line option was not clear enough and didn't say or emphesize the fact that one could send also the photo and DID NOT have to come also to the embassy.
I think that for future customers one should very distinctive and clear about this option, as long as it is available.
Also, the lady at the front desk was very helpfull in giving us a draft that shows how big is the photo size.

Excellent customer service all the way through.
When I made the appointment by phone the staff member was friendly and very helpful with all the information I needed. At the embassy the staff was also very friendly and helpful, including at the security check in. Everything went smoothly and efficiently. It was a very good experience!

I had such a pleasant experience at the Embassy. I was running late for my appointment due to heavy traffic, so I called to see if it would be ok. In the same call I asked if I could bring my puppy, and enquired about nearby parking. The response was so accommodating!! The people working there were so sweet, and did everything they could to help me succeed in my task. I was seriously impressed and appreciative!
